Okay ~ so the south side of my house is totally shaded too ~ by a BEAUTIFUL, huge American Elm. My back deck is in total shade. I have a small fish pond beside it that is on the southwest corner of my house. I have had to cut back the elm branches a bit to give my pond a bit of sunlight. The waterlilly is beautiful, but never flowers because of the lack of sun.
